Winemakers Notes
The Herzog Selection Les Lauriers des Rothschild is comprised of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Les Lauriers des Rothschild, hails from the St. Emillion, France appelation and is aged in French oak for 12 months. The wine has a wonderful purple color, bright and bursting with color with a Viking purple at the edges. The aroma has a great earthy fruity aroma, like cherries just picked from the ground and some raspberries. This wine is really bursting with fruit but also the oak is present in a subtle way. Not an overpowering oak aroma, almost like salt on food just making the fruit the star. This is a light bodied, medium acid taste with more red fruit on the palate, with some notes of cedar. The super smooth tannins create a reasonably long finish that sits on the top of the tongue. This is a really enjoyable wine.
